YoBoiDoc began his journey as an artist and producer over 30 years ago by creating his own music. He developed his production skills and established a distinctive style by drawing inspiration from legendary musicians such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Earth, Wind & Fire, and James Brown, among others.
Despite financial constraints in the early stages, he utilized his creativity to acquire the necessary equipment for a basic production setup. He notes that while there are various types of producers, he identifies as one who can write lyrics, compose music, and record artists comprehensively. He officially entered the production sphere in the early 1990s, amassing a diverse portfolio that includes collaborations with artists and companies such as Gorilla Zoe, Young Bleed, Duffle Bag Entertainment, 4th Coast Records, Lady El, Bri Bandzz, Ant2x, Coo Coo Cal, Baby Drew, Namebrand, and Smooth, to name a few.
YoBoiDoc views himself as both an artist and a producer, regarding them as equally important aspects of his identity. He characterizes himself as a “hustler type of entrepreneur” who is dedicated and results-oriented. While he is already functioning as an entrepreneur through his production work, his aspiration over the next five years is to share his talent with a global audience. His advice to aspiring producers, artists, or entrepreneurs is to “pursue your dreams relentlessly and never give up. You only live once; make the most of your opportunities.
